The Things You Think But Never Speak

Prelude:

Psalm 32:3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long
ESV

Poem:

The things you think but never speak

Are oft revealed in what you seek.

The things you seek, speak more than words,

Have a care—or they’ll be your lords.

The things you think but never speak,

Dwell deep within—a muffled shriek.

Ruling an abundance of your ways,

And leaving you seeking brighter days.

The things you think but never speak,

Will mock at you with tongue in cheek.

They’ll wag their fingers in your face

And tell you you’re a blamed disgrace.

The things you think but never speak

Will often cause your heart to reek.

Making it a stinking closet,

Till you open up the faucet.

The things you think but never speak

Can cause your eyes to spring a leak.

Whether the thing is politically incorrect

Or a fault that shades you less than perfect.

The things you think but never speak

Can in a healthy mind, havoc wreak.

They can cause the sane to feel insane,

And make your heart feel cleft in twain.

The things you think but never speak,

The things you know,

But never crow,

Can bring you darkness way down low.

Way down in the nether-most regions,

Where dwell the enemy and his legions.

The things you think but never speak

You must bring to a Man Who’s meek.

If you let Him He will hear

Every secret held so near.

Everything you’re afraid to spout,

You can to Him whisper—or even shout.

The things you think but never speak,

To Him are not the least bit Greek.

He understands our every thought,

And with His blood the right He bought.

The right to know our every way,

And so, we are compelled to pray.

The things you think but never speak,

Should cause you Jesus Christ to seek.

And when you’ve told Him everything,

Perhaps to you a friend He’ll bring.

A person with whom you can lower your shield,

The Word says then that you’ll be healed.

The things you think but never speak,

Can also be a list replete,

With ideas that are not accepted,

By establishment they are rejected.

If indeed this is the case,

Do not dismay, but lift your face.

The things you think but never speak,

If wise and true make you no freak.

For the things that Jesus Himself did utter,

Caused the masses to murmur and mutter.

So, be like a lion—be very bold,

By the Spirit of God, His Word you’ll uphold.
